Under every pulp capping is a promise: that the living tissue inside the tooth will tolerate the material placed on it and wall itself off with new hard tissue. Calcium hydroxide made that promise for decades. Calcium silicate cements such as MTA and Biodentine came later, and bioceramic putties after them. Whether the pulp actually does it is a different question from whether the tooth survives, and the reviews that exist answer the second one. They count teeth still alive and painless a year or two on. A tooth can stay quiet with an inflamed pulp under the dressing, and it can be lost for reasons the dressing had nothing to do with. The direct evidence is a much smaller literature: teeth capped, later extracted for orthodontic reasons, sectioned and read under a microscope, where a bridge of new hard tissue is either there or it is not and the cells beneath it can be counted. Nobody has collected it. This project does, one material class at a time. Reading methods sections closely is most of the work, and the tables are what the paper is for.
Read up on how a dentist treats an exposed pulp and what is meant to happen to the tissue underneath. Take one material class, read the papers gathered for it, tabulate what each microscope section showed, and write that section.
